We are now trialling the ability for drivers to reserve a charge point! 


Char.gy drivers can now place a Reservation on a charge point for up to 15 minutes prior to your arrival at its location. As part of this trial, please note the following:


  • The trial is only currently available at our charge points in Coventry and Redbridge and, if successful, we plan to extend it to more areas in the future.
  • Reservations can only be made by customers who have created a Char.gy account and have an active payment card assigned to it
  • Reservations can only be made via the Char.gy website or mobile app and not through a roaming partner app.
  • You can only have one Reservation active at a time, and are limited to 4 Reservations a day and only 2 reservations on the same charge point within 24 hours. Your reservation allowance will reset at Midnight each day. 
  • Reservations cannot be scheduled in advance and the 15 minute hold will commence as soon as the Reservation is placed. Reservations are currently available free of charge. 


How to make a Reservation


To make a Reservation, you will need to ensure you are logged in to your account, and then access the Char.gy charge point map via our website or via your char.gy app. Locate the charge point you wish to reserve via the map page, click on Charge Point details and you will see a 'Hold' button.




You will then move to this screen outlining how the reservation works, and asking you to confirm you wish to proceed with reserving the charge bay. For more information on bay availability, please review the What if the charger is currently blocked? section further down in this guide. 




Once reserved, you will be returned to the charge point page where the charger will also show a status of Reserved. If you don't start your charge on the charge point within 15 minutes, then the charger will become available for others to use again. 





What if the charger is currently blocked?


You may receive a warning prompt in the event that we can detect the charge point you are looking to place a Reservation on has a cable plugged in, but no charging is currently taking place. If this is the case, the prompt will offer you the option to look for an alternative charger, or to continue with the Reservation. 



Please note that whilst this trial is only available for charge points that have dedicated bays, we cannot guarantee that a charge point will be available and not blocked, by another EV or a non-EV. In the event that you do find a bay blocked, either by another non charging EV, or a non EV, please report this via the Report an Issue feature in our app. 



Cancelling a reservation 


If you no longer require the reservation, you can cancel it by selecting the remaining reservation time bar at the top of the screen, and selecting Cancel reservation. This will put the charger back into an available status. Please note that cancelling a reservation still counts towards your daily reservation limit.
